Cologne Art Week visitor guide
Dates, tickets, access & getting around
Start with the Overview for exhibitions and opening days, then use Venues to choose a route. This independent guide covers ART COLOGNE and concurrent programmes across Cologne; each organiser sets its own admission conditions.
When to visit
The guide covers Monday 2–Sunday 8 November 2026. ART COLOGNE takes place 5–8 November; its regular public days are Friday–Sunday. Thursday has an invitation preview and a separately ticketed public vernissage.
Saturday 7 November also brings Kölner Museumsnacht, continuing until 01:00 on Sunday. Choose museums and galleries as well as the fair when planning your stay.
Official fair dates & hours ↗ART COLOGNE tickets
On Thursday 5 November, the preview is invitation-only from 12:00–16:00. The public vernissage is 16:00–20:00 and requires its own €60 ticket.
Regular public hours are Friday and Saturday 11:00–19:00, Sunday 11:00–18:00. Online day tickets are €34, with reductions available. Book through the organiser and read the conditions for your ticket.
Tickets & concessions ↗Getting to the fair
Use Koelnmesse’s Entrance South, beside Köln Messe/Deutz station on the east bank of the Rhine. The fair address is Messeplatz 1, 50679 Köln. The cathedral and most central museum stops are on the west bank.
Check your booking email for the separate VRS transport ticket. Its terms cover travel to and from the fair; do not assume your admission barcode alone is a general city transport pass. Use the official journey planner for your connection.
Official arrival information ↗Museumsnacht on Saturday
Kölner Museumsnacht runs Saturday 7 November, 18:00–01:00. A dedicated event ticket covers participating locations and travel to and from the event within the VRS area. Check the final location programme before choosing your evening stops.
ART COLOGNE is included during an exclusive time window specified by the organiser. This does not establish all-day fair access. Museum evening programmes and ordinary daytime visits also have different ticket conditions.
Programme, locations & event tickets ↗Opening days & late visits
Many museums close on Monday. Two exceptions in this selection are Kolumba, which closes Tuesday, and Die Photographische Sammlung, which closes Wednesday and opens at 14:00 on its other days.
Thursday 5 November is the first Thursday of the month. Museum Ludwig, MAKK, Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum and the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst advertise extended hours to 22:00; Kollwitz Museum and Die Photographische Sammlung to 21:00. Check Details for each listing.
The filled date markers show confirmed public visiting days, including the fair’s paid Thursday vernissage. Open Details for hours and conditions; a filled marker does not mean all-day access.
Museum Ludwig
Along the Color Line, De/Collecting Memories from Turtle Island and Man Ray: Kiki overlap the week. De/Collecting Memories closes on Sunday 8 November.
Lee Ufan’s Wolfgang Hahn Prize presentation opens to the public on Saturday 7 November. Friday’s announced award ceremony is a separate occasion; check attendance conditions rather than treating it as ordinary exhibition access.
Museum programme ↗A central museum route
Choose Museum Ludwig near the cathedral, then consider MAKK’s Hans Georg Esch photographs and jewellery collection, or Kolumba’s annual exhibition. These are separate venues and admissions.
Near Neumarkt, combine the two Kollwitz Museum presentations with Kölnischer Kunstverein or r e t u r n at Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum. Allow time for the exhibitions rather than trying to visit every venue in one day.
Wallraf-Richartz-Museum is closed for renovation and extension until the end of 2028; it is not a stop in this edition.
Wallraf closure information ↗Gallery visits & openings
Louise Bourgeois at Galerie Karsten Greve ends Saturday 7 November. Yair Oelbaum’s Cowlick at Galerie Buchholz opens Thursday 5 November, 18:00–20:00.
Ryan Sullivan at Galerie Gisela Capitain also opens on 5 November; reception hours are still to be checked. The gallery has more than one Cologne space, so confirm the exhibition room before travelling.
Ordinary gallery hours often end on Saturday. Do not assume galleries will open Sunday because the fair is open.
Buchholz opening information ↗Südstadt & the west
Jadé Fadojutimi is shown at the Michael Horbach Foundation, Wormser Straße 23, rather than Galerie Gisela Capitain’s central addresses. Public hours are Thursday–Friday 10:00–18:00 and Saturday 11:00–16:00; other visits are by appointment.
For a separate west-side museum visit, the Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst at Aachener Weiher has Schichten und Schnitte and Zum Mondjahr des Pferdes. Both are within the same museum.
Fadojutimi location & hours ↗Photography & outdoor art
The August Sander anniversary exhibition is at Die Photographische Sammlung, Im Mediapark 7. It works as an afternoon visit; Wednesday is closed.
Skulpturenpark Köln offers free outdoor sculpture viewing Tuesday–Sunday, 11:00–17:00 in November. Plan it in daylight and check for weather-related changes.
The park is between temporary editions and currently presents permanent works. KölnSkulptur #12 is planned for 2027; this guide does not label the previous temporary exhibition as current.
Park programme & visiting information ↗Admission & booking
Fair admission, museum admission and Museumsnacht are separate purchases. Start with the events you most want to see and follow their official ticket links.
Kollwitz Museum and Die Photographische Sammlung offer free admission to everyone on Thursday 5 November. At several municipal museums, KölnTag free-entry offers require proof of Cologne residence. Check eligibility and special-exhibition conditions before relying on a discount.
Kollwitz admission ↗ · Photographic collection admission ↗Access & practical details
Use each venue’s visitor information for step-free routes, assistance, cloakrooms and photography rules. The Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst currently notes climate-equipment noise and assistance for step-free access to its foyer.
The Venues page links the selected locations to maps. Check the exact entrance as well as the street address, especially at Koelnmesse and venues with several spaces.
